Friday the 13th and the number 13

It's Friday the 13th! *dun dun dun*

We're only the third month into the new year and we're already on Friday the 13th number two! How crazy is that?


I've posted a poll over in the side bar...or the middle bar. Are you superstitious? I'm curious. Inquiring minds want to know. I'd love it if you left me a comment on this post about your superstitions...or if you think it's all a bunch of BS.


In the meantime here are some Friday the 13th and #13 fun facts (not 13 of them though):

1. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia (say that 3 times, fast!)
2. Fear of the number 13 is called Triskaidekaphobia.
3. In the year 2009 there will be three Friday the 13th's. (February, March, November).
4. The next year for three Friday the 13th's in a year is 2015. This generally happens every 11 years unless there is a leap year then the pattern 6 years, 11 years, 11 years.
5. Any month that begins with a Sunday will have a Friday the 13th.
6. Approximately 80% of all high rise buildings do not have a 13th floor.
7. Most hotels and hospitals don't have a room 13.
8. There isn't a 13th row on airplanes and many airports do not have a 13th gate.
9. Several serial killers have 13 letters in their names: Jack the Ripper, Theodore (Ted) Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson.
10. If you look at a dollar bill there are 13 steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle’s head, 13 war arrows in the eagle’s claw and 13 leaves on the olive branch.
11. Apollo 13 launched at 13:13 CST on Apr. 11, 1970. If you add the numbers together (4-11-70) it equal 13 (as in 4+1+1+7+0 = 13). The explosion on the spacecraft occurred on April 13 (not a Friday). They did make it back safe.
12. In most traditional tarot card decks the "death" card is the 13th trump card. (XIII)
