Friday the 13th and the number 13
It's Friday the 13th! *dun dun dun*
We're only the third month into the new year and we're already on Friday the 13th number two! How crazy is that?I've posted a poll over in the side bar...or the middle bar. Are you superstitious? I'm curious. Inquiring minds want to know. I'd love it if you left me a comment on this post about your superstitions...or if you think it's all a bunch of BS.
In the meantime here are some Friday the 13th and #13 fun facts (not 13 of them though):
- The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia (say that 3 times, fast!)
- Fear of the number 13 is called Triskaidekaphobia.
- In the year 2009 there will be three Friday the 13th's. (February, March, November).
- The next year for three Friday the 13th's in a year is 2015. This generally happens every 11 years unless there is a leap year then the pattern 6 years, 11 years, 11 years.
- Any month that begins with a Sunday will have a Friday the 13th.
- Approximately 80% of all high rise buildings do not have a 13th floor.
- Most hotels and hospitals don't have a room 13.
- There isn't a 13th row on airplanes and many airports do not have a 13th gate.
- Several serial killers have 13 letters in their names: Jack the Ripper, Theodore (Ted) Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson.
- If you look at a dollar bill there are 13 steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle’s head, 13 war arrows in the eagle’s claw and 13 leaves on the olive branch.
- Apollo 13 launched at 13:13 CST on Apr. 11, 1970. If you add the numbers together (4-11-70) it equal 13 (as in 4+1+1+7+0 = 13). The explosion on the spacecraft occurred on April 13 (not a Friday). They did make it back safe.
- In most traditional tarot card decks the "death" card is the 13th trump card. (XIII)
