The Good Home Cookbook Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. A WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY. THANKS!

I looooove cookbooks. I cannot walk out of a thrift shop or a yard sale if there is a cookbook anywhere in sight. However...for the most part I'm just a collector of cookbooks and only once in a blue moon do I go scavenging through one to make something new (I mean...hello? internet?)

But I do like them. When I buy them I'll sit and read through them front to back and put sticky notes on all the recipes I have good intentions to try.

So there, I admitted it...I'm a collector of cookbooks but lazy about using them.
You still love me right?

Anyway I couldn't pass up the opportunity to giveaway a copy of The Good Home Cookbook by Richard J. Perry to one of my readers. This book has more than 1,000 recipes in it plus tips on canning, pickling, freezing, thawing, presentation, garnishes.

It's 512 pages...15 chapters of recipe love.

Breakfast recipes, lunch, appetizers, salads, fish, poultry, grilling, pasta, drinks, rice, veggies, breads, pies, cakes, cookies and desserts...oh my!

A few of my sticky-noted recipes

Long Island Iced Tea (yep, I went right for the booze)
Grilled Kitchen-Sink Burgers (those sound healthy, right?)
Mexican Tortilla Soup

It even has the recipe for Crispy Rice Squares (you know I wanna call them the other name...) because, admit it...some of you don't know how to make them.

I don't! Not off the top of my head anyway.

I have one copy of The Good Home Cookbook to give away to one lucky Fairy Blog Mother reader.

To enter this giveaway:
  • Tell me what your favorite dish to prepare is
  • (recipe optional but don't be surprised if I email you to ask you what it is if you don't post it!)

I like to make green bean cassarole. This is a pretty lame favorite, I think, but it's the first thing I learned how to cook, and so it's my favorite.

I just make it the way my mom did --- two cans of french style green beans, one can of cream of mushroom (or chicken), mix it together in a pyrex baking dish, and then top with like two huge cans of french fried onion rings.... lol!

Anyway, delicious, and I love it!

I make Kitchen Sink Breakfast/Supper. You basically saute' onions, hash browns, ham (or whatever you like or whatever you need to get rid of small amounts of). When it's done to your liking, you scramble eggs, pour them over the top and cook til just set. I usually top with cheese (who doesn't need a few extra calories?). Great way to get rid of some leftovers and make a new dish.

I love Chicken Parmesan, and I found an incredible recipe in a cookbook called Applehood and Motherpie. Very easy and very delicious. Thank you!

My favorite is sharks and maggots, such named after a week of pirating! Thin sliced pork and rice with a nice gravy. The kids thought it was cool. Of course it was interesting explaining this dish to the teachers who all day heard about eating sharks and maggots. Yes, I was embarrassed. I am queenesperfect at yahoo.com

Vinegar pie: 2 eggs, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 stick real butter, 1/4 cup flour, 1tsp. pumpkin spice, 1 cup water to which was added 3 ttbsp. cider vinegar and 1 tblsp. Lemon juice first. Melt butter, stir in spices, Brownsugar, flour, slowly wisk in eggs, water. Pour mixture carefully in 9inch pie plate lined with pastry, bake 325 for 1 hour or until puffy. Nuts can be added to filling, if desired. My husband proposed marriage when I made this on our third date, so keep that in mind, ladies. writer61@yahoo.com

One of my favorite dishes to prepare is potato salad. The secret is to drizzle the potatoes with olive oil and a pinch of salt while they are STILL WARM. They really absorb the flavor that way. Once the potatoes are completely cooled, add your favorite mixture of mayonnaise, mustard, seasoning, green olives, celery, onions ... whatever you like in your potato salad. I promise, you will love it! Thanks for the chance to win a great cookbook! Sounds like it will have lots of helpful tips! (krstrpp at hotmail dot com)

I also love cookbooks! I do a lot of cooking usually for all three meals every day but I honestly can't think of anything I love to cook. I would probably have to say comfort foods like soups and stews and chilis are my very favorite. I'm also always very proud of my turkey, turkey Mercedes from a recipe I clipped out of the newspaper a few years ago. Here is that link; http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Turkey-Mercedes/Detail.aspx

The easiest thing I make (and therefore a favorite!) is my "six-can" chili. One lb. ground beef, browned, drained and rinsed. Two cans each tomato sauce, petite diced tomatoes and chili hot beans. If you use "for chili" tomatoes and sauce, you don't even have to add any chili powder, salt or cayenne.

I like roasting a chicken. I make mixture of a couple of tablespoons each of softened butter and olive oil, then add salt, coarsely ground pepper, dried or fresh thyme and rosemary, and 3 or 4 cloves of finely minced garlic (I use a garlic press). I rub this mixture all ove the skin, and underneath the breast skin. Then I roast the chicken, starting it at 450 for 10 minutes, then turning it down to 350 and roast until done. I serve this with eithermashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
