Exergen TemporalScanner Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. A WINNER WILL BE DRAWN SOON. THANKS!

My 2-year old, Ethan, HATES having his temperature taken. He's too young for an oral thermometer, our dog ate our ear thermometer (yep) and we'll save taking temperatures rectally for the pediatrician's office. So that leaves me with holding a thermometer under his arm all while he screams, squirms and fights me off every which way he can. And if he's asleep and I need to check his temperature it usually requires removing his shirt or at least his arm. So much for sleeping...

I was really excited to get to review the Exergen Temporal Scanner. However, it showed up like 4 days after a bout of fever and illness in my house (with my 7-year old son this time). So actually testing it out on a sick child didn't happen...and I'm not going to wish any illness on anyone in my family for the sake of a good review. Haha!

Why I like it...it's completely non-invasive. No more waking sick, sleepy kids to pop a thermometer in their mouth, ear or under their arm...or other places. You simply brush it across the forehead, over the temporal artery and it gives you a quick, accurate reading.

So how does it work?

As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:
First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented "arterial heat balance" (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

It really is that simple to use. We played around with it and got normal temperature readings in seconds using the Exergen TemporalScanner. I know temperature taking will be a lot easier in my house the next time an illness makes it's way through my front door.

I have one Exergen TemporalScanner to give to one lucky Fairy Blog Mother reader.

I learned: Measure only the side of the head that is exposed. Any covering, hair, hat, etc. will prevent the heat from dissipating, and would cause the reading to be falsely high. This also applies if one side of the head is into a pillow.

I learned that a major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers.

I learned "I learned that a major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers." that, also.

Mainly from the 106 inaccurate temp I got on my Eth over the weekend -- I NEED a thermom like that.

I love mine. It reads a couple of degrees cool, but I've learned that 94.7 is a normal scan so if it reads 99 I start looking for the Tylenol. My 3yo loves using it and trys to scan me, but he prefers my nose to my forehead.

I had no idea: The best place to measure temperature is the center of the heart, but this can be done only under a doctor's supervision. Doctors know that measurement of the blood temperature in a major artery accurately reflects true body temperature. The TemporalScanner Thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery, a major artery of the head.
