Cruefest 2 Review
We're up to our crazy antics again...heading out to rock concerts with our kids, well one of our kids.
Last year when my daughter turned 12 we went to Cruefest. It was what she wanted for her birthday, the concert was on her birthday (July 29). Her first concert.
This year for her 13th birthday she wanted to go to Cruefest 2...a few days after her birthday.
Cruefest 2 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Dr. Feelgood album for Motley Crue. The show opened up with Charm City Devils (never even heard of them), followed by Drowning Pool, Theory of a Deadman, Godsmack and closed with Motley Crue (obviously).
The show was at Usana Ampitheatre (same venue as last year's Cruefest...same venue as the Incubus concert we attended a few weeks back).
We wandered around while Charm City Devils were on the stage. They had a second stage (Monster Energy stage) set up with some bands playing. The band Cavo was set to headline the second stage but it coincided with Drowning Pool on the main stage so we didn't see them.
Drowning Pool really kicked some major ass. They only played for 30-45 minutes but they did a great job of getting the crowd riled up (not that we needed a lot of help). They closed their set with a dedication to the original singer of Drowning Pool (he died a few years back) and then sang Bodies...that song IS Drowning Pool.
Next up was Theory of a Deadman. I thought I only knew one of their songs but it turns out I knew quite a few of them, just didn't know it was them. Of all the bands we seen these guys were my least favorite. They did good, I liked the music...I just like the other bands better. They sang quite a few songs I recognized and closed the show with Bad Girlfriend.

Then Godsmack hit the stage and it was like all hell broke loose. They kicked sooooo much ass. They had the crowd going crazy, cheering. They were just awesome. I loved, loved, loved them.
They performed Voodoo, I Stand Alone, Whatever, Speak and several of their other hits.
And they were just too fucking cool. Sully, the lead singer is so talented. He did the vocals, guitar playing and he even did a drum solo with the drummer (4th pic down...kinda blurry). Right before he they finished the show Sully took a dive off the stage into the crowd and within seconds he had been tossed back up on stage. He so rules.

Finally around 930 or so Motley Crue hit the stage. The stage was mostly blocked off and looked like a padded cell. Vince Neil looked like he was wearing a straight jacket...I could be way off though. LOL Within a few minutes the whole stage opened up.
The Crue performed the Dr. Feelgood album in it's entirety and then sang hits like Girls, Girls, Girls and Home Sweet Home.
Motley Crue put on a good show but Vince Neil kept forgetting his own lyrics. Later on at an after party we went to, people were saying he was losing his voice. I seen Vince Neil in concert a while back when he was solo, he did some Crue songs then and flubbed the lyrics then too. So, I'm not buyin' it. LOL

All in all...Cruefest 2 was a blast. The show started at 5pm and we were out of there by 1130PM. It was scorching hot, I got a little bit of a sunburn but holy hell it was fun.
Motley Crue was good, they're always good and the music is just so fun.
But Godsmack really stole the show on this one.

Thanks for sharing- I know your daughter had fun!
My first concert ever was Crue and Ozzy. I was 13. It was in Spokane. The tour was Bark at the moon/Shout at the Devil.
I was madly sickly crazily in love with Motley at the time. I fell in love with Ozz that day. My first glimpse was a pouff of Nikki's hair, Orange surrounded by black. I didn't see much else, as I was 20 rows back or so, and I was at armpit level.
It changed my life!
Long live Ozz. Long live the Crue.
Thanks for sharing.
Saw Crue Fest 2 over the weekend in Detroit. This event should have been called Smack Fest instead of Crue Fest. GodSmack stole the show - they were awesome, much better than Crue. Crue was good, but GodSmack was great!
