Walmart Sucks
I know it's not Friday and I should maybe save this gripe for then, but I think it's worthy of a blog post all it's own.
I have a love/hate relationship with Walmart...as most do I'm sure. But every time I go there I lean a little more on the hate side of the spectrum. I like how I can go there and find everything I need. Hate the customer service, the parking lot, the cashiers at my Walmart are ASSHOLES, you can never find anyone to help you should you require assistance and it is always crazy busy with like three check-out lines open.
Anyway...
Walmart is my second choice grocery store, as it's not the closest to my house. I regularly shop at Smith's (Kroger).
I received some yogurt coupons a while back and have been unable to find these yogurts at my regular store. I was at Walmart yesterday and had the coupons with me...and found the yogurts. Score!
I had five coupons, two were for free 6-pack of yogurts and three were for free individual yogurt cups.
I get to the checkout and hand the cashier the coupons as she's ringing the yogurts up. She looks them over front and back and says "I don't think we can take these. We don't accept buy one get one free coupons anymore".
I explained that they were free item coupons not BOGO. So she flips her light on...there I am, the asshole in line holding up everyone behind me...blue light flashing, waiting for some other clueless cashier to come over. My cashier hollers at another girl at the next register over and summons her to her station. The other lady says she doesn't think they can accept the coupons either. Then another person comes over and says the same thing, that they're not supposed to accept free item or BOGO coupons anymore. But that they'd let me redeem two of them. Ok, fine.
Then the stupid cash machine/computer wouldn't let them redeem the coupons. It was just some fucking yogurt. I'm not going to stand there holding up the line anymore, while two dipshits stand behind the cash register scratching their asses trying to get it to accept a coupon. I just told them to nevermind, that I'd use the coupons elsewhere. We were not in dire need of yogurt. Sheesh!
Then it took several more minutes for them to take the damn yogurts off of my bill and give me a new total.
Maybe it's just my Walmart, maybe it's all Walmarts...but what the hell? No longer accepting free item or BOGO coupons. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm glad I didn't make a special trip just to use these coupons.
And is it necessary to have three clueless people try and help me? Seriously?
And just to add...every cashier I've ever encountered at Walmart is incredibly irritated whenever I use coupons. Um...get over it, it's your job? I'm not being a dick to you, so quit being a dick to me. Dick.
So um...yeah, watch for a yogurt coupon giveaway! LOL

It's definitely not just your Walmart. I've had the exact same problems. There's pretty much nothing I enjoy about going to Walmart except for the prices. The employees are rude and slow, the lighting is killer, and the new layout at my store makes it nearly impossible to find anything. The one here has buckled down on coupons too, so there's pretty much no reason for me to shop there anymore. I swear, I think Walmart's employees think they're doing you a favor by working for you... it's your job people!!!
That happened to me today! I had 2 coupons for free Luvs diapers, and they wouldn't work. When she typed in the amount, it would only take off half of the price. Luckily the manager had her just do each of them twice so I did get them for free. I felt bad for the people behind me in line, though!

That is easily the best blog I have read anywhere in a LONG time! Thanks so much for stating everything my wife and I have been feeling for quite a long time. The best thing we can all do is STOP shopping there as much as possible.

I don't understand WHY they can't redeem the coupons-I mean you have LEGIT free coupons and they deny you?

Our Walmart still takes free product coupons. They have however been getting a lot of fake coupons so they have to really watch them. Maybe that's why they do not take them no more.
Sweetie I PROMISE it is not just your Walmart.It's almost like they're application qualifications are standard If you are Lazy, Like to laligag with your co-workers act like customers are just a big in-convienece and your just a flat out Bitch then Hey!-You got the job!! and the FBI agents they have working the door checking receipts pissed my husband off big time he cuts threw line to leave just to piss them off I swear our door greeter was nodding off the other day because it scared him when i told him Welcome to Walmart LoL and the return people like to act like Judge Judy LoL I hate walmart it's just 5 min from my house so i feel i need to go to save money.
It must be the policy of the manager there, because it certainly is not the policy of the store where I am located at. My store manager will even let you bring in flyers of other stores specials (e.g. Safeway, Albertson's, King Soopers which is in the Kroger family and so on) and if they have an item cheaper than Walmart sells it for, then Walmart will only charge you that amount at that shopping check out time, but you have to bring the current flyer with you with the dates of the sale or specials on it). You have to give the checkers the flyers first before they start checking you out though, because they hand put the amount in, and don't scan the item in. They then circle the item and write the number of items you bought of such, yet it can't exceed the number the other store has set; example if the other store says you have a limit of three at such and such price, you'll have that limit at Walmart here too. I actually talked to the Walmart manager here and he said that he wants all of our business and it's just good business for Walmart to do this. I think so too.
The cashiers here are great and never have a snotty attitude about coupons, gift cards etc..
The associates in the store are always willing to help me find whatever I need.
There are usually at least 4 regular check outs open, and 1 20 or less check outs open, but when it's busy the manager gets more people out there checking or comes down and does it himself.
I think how a store is run depends on the manager and how he teaches his staff and also how he treats them too.
I think you should contact corporate Walmart and let them know your feelings, I'm sure it will create a change for the better.

I was not aware they would not take the coupons for free or bogo. I have used coupons for free items there without problems in the last couple of months it seems.
I know they stopped taking web coupons which really irks me.
Apparently they have lost a lot of money with fake coupons...
I wish they had a clear coupon policy.
Hmmm...I am not sure if it is all Walmart's or not. I used a free coupon the other day for a glade candle without a hitch. But I am not the biggest fan of Walmart in general. I hate that they are putting everything else out of business. But I also hate having to pay insane prices for things at those other stores, when I can get them much cheaper at Walmart. It's a loose loose for me.
Nope. Not just your Walmart. I don't know what the fascination is with Walmart other than they undercut everyone else's prices in the hopes of closing down other businesses. They have the all time worst customer service and, yes, the parking lots suck. The few employees they do have that are not at registers no nothing. Haven't been there recently to test out the coupon changes though. And in no rush either.
I hate when people are miserable at their job, and act like they are doing you a favor. I know if I am miserable in my sales jobs I won't keep or get any customers...how do those people keep their job???
Well, I don't have a love/hate relationship with Walmart, just a hate.... I try very hard to never, ever shop there -- I think the last time was when I found my last stray kitten five years ago and needed kitten replacement formula and it was after midnight.
If those are manufacturer coupons Walmart should be obligated to accept them. That's just freakin' ridiculous. They get reimbursed for them, PLUS handling. Plus you're in their store, possibly buying other stuff!
THANK YOU!!! I abhor Walmart. Mine doesn't take internet coupons & the only staff who are pleasant are the greeters. I swear my blood pressure rises as I approach their doors. The employees always seem to look at you like you're interrupting their doing nothing-ness. And to top it all off, I save 10 times as much shopping Kroger than I ever did at Walmart. Walmart = Evil
I can see not taking printed coupons maybe - like printed at home, but glossy colorful ones that obviously came from the company should be acceptable! They do get reimbursed for them, so I don't see what the big deal is...
Wal Mart sucks a big fat one. I hardly ever even get to the door before turning around and leaving. The most fucktarded people shop and work there. Not saying this is EVERYONE so don't hate, but it's the case 99.9% of the time at the ones here in Cali.

I was there once and wanted to purchase a DVD. The register went down and the dumbass cashier didn't know how to fix it. Called the lead over and she started BEATING on the register!!!Just reboot the computer dumbass! I was so irritated after like 15 minutes I gave up and left.
I can still use free coupons but try to use (2) .25 off coupons which say off 1 while buying 2 cans and you will hear it
Our Walmart will take free coupons, just try and get the cashier to figure out how much the item costs is the big deal at our store is the problem. Because the DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH!! I always keep the free items up front with the coupon. The employees don't ever work by themselves in our store either, they are always in twos speaking to each other in Spanish, and if you ask a question, they look at you like you are the stupid one because you don't understand THEM!! Then of course, there is the pharmacy... the wait is always at least 45 minutes, doesn't matter if you've just come from the hospital, ER, or whatever, it's 45-90 minutes for a prescription!! And, oh yeah, the lighting drives me nuts, too with all the up and down changing, it gives me a migraine.
Twice this week I've been the one holding up the line. I always feel bad, but given the option of holding up the line or getting ripped off, I choose the holding up the line option. Often I'll tell those behind me exactly what's going on and why the line is held up.
Oh my gosh....LOVE this post and love your blog. I just had a crappy experience with Walmart yesterday, but it was at the photo lab where I stood WITH my 8 month old (you'd think they'd be more helpful with people with babies since we're always on borrowed time) for like an hour trying to get help while there were several workers around doing everything BUT helping customers. UGH! I also had them deny one of my Gerber coupons (although they took several of my other coupones) on Saturday.

It's the same at the walmart near me. Target is great with coupons so I go there instead.
I can honestly say alot of the reason the employees at walmart act the way they do is because of walmart it self i say this well cause i work there lol. i may not know where everything is but i try to help as much as i can. But alot of the reasons you run in to people at walmart that arent the best help or just dont care because of how much walmart jerks there employees around and they do it alot there have been countless weeks they shorted my check took days off away jerked me around for days off i was promised and they way they run the store dosent help either they really dont give there employees a reason to give a damn
