Awww Vince...

Okay, I feel like a total schmuck for the ShamWow guy blog posts.

Well, kinda...

I mean he is still annoying and kinda creepy looking and I agree with Skepchick about not understanding the purpose of th headset...but I may never make a joke about his nuts again. I'm seriously considering buying a ShamWow now.

I read this over at Skepchick, on a blog post dated 1/19/09. She has given me permission to quote a paragraph or two. You'll have to read the rest of her blog post to read the full story.

I’d like to talk to you about a man whom I’ve dubbed “Headset Vince”. He’s the guy from the ShamWow commercials. He wears a headset for reasons no one other than Vince can understand… maybe he’s expecting a phone call? From his agent offering him a better gig? Maybe his mom is calling to tell him that Stella from Bingo saw him on the teevee? I don’t know. What I do know is that this guy is someone who I, until now, felt the need to mock at any and every conceivable opportunity.

Turns out, Headset Vince is actually one of the good guys, a hero. We need to stop mocking him and start celebrating him. And we need to buy his towels and nut choppers and his DVDs.

Headset Vince is actually a guy named Vince Offer. It sounds like he should be a cartoon bear-dog hybrid drawn onto the corners of coupons you get in the mail, but he is not a cartoon. In real life, Vince was an aspiring filmmaker - not a very good one, but his lack of filmwriting, directing, and acting skills were not about to hold him back from a career making talkies for the big screen. And yet, you notice I’m using the past tense. He was an aspiring filmmaker… but now he wears a headset in TV commercials and makes you feel like a dick for not already owning German-made spongetowels. So what happened?

The Church of Scientology happened.
...Click here to read the full post.

It's kind of sad. I'm not starting any religious debates or bashing so I'll keep my trap shut about what I think of Scientology. I don't understand it enough to feel I should touch on it anymore. I'm kind of sad about his whole story in general...how he tried so hard and....yeah.

I still love me some infomercials though. And I'll still be fascinated by Vince and his headset everytime he pops up on my tv.

Having blog issues...again

I was trying out a new comment thing and it screwed everything up. But not before I had some comments left on the 'new' system. I have all the comments saved as I get email notification on every comment, so I know who you are, I know you commented and how many times.

I've since gone back to the old way and it's working just fine, but those 15 or so comments...well I'll either have to go in and make a comment myself copy/pasting the info...or, well I don't know of another way to do it other than haver you re-comment and that's more of a pain for you. I'm hoping I'll just be able to get them imported to the right spot.

So, if you commented on my Cheerios contest and it's not showing your comment...I have it! I promise, I have them! And you'll get credit for your entries.

Comments ARE working fine now.

Cheerios Circle of Helping Hearts Giveaway - CLOSED

This giveaway is now closed. Winners will be announced soon!

Do you know if you're at risk for heart disease?

Most of us know that smoking, being overweight and having high blood pressure are all risk factors for heart disease. But did you know that having a family history of heart disease, women over age 55 and women who've had a hysterectomy or gone through menopause are at an increased risk?

I knew about the family history, but had no idea that age and "women's" issues could contribute to heart disease as well.

Even poorly managed stress can contribute to heart disease.
(Note to self: Chill out!)

To help raise awareness for heart disease and give free cholesterol screenings for women in need Cheerios has partnered with WomenHeart and will donate $1, (up to $200,000) now through January 31, 2010. Just purchase Cheerios (because you already do, right?) and codes are found in specially marked boxes. Enter your codes at www.cheerioshelpinghearts.com

Cheerios and Charity Charms have generously offered three of my readers a fresh water pearl bracelet with a heart charm. Charity Charms donates a portion of it's proceeds to various charites.

It's a great way to show your support to women's heart health!

To win one of these pretty bracelets leave me a comment telling me:

What do you do to maintain a healthy heart?

Time Out Monday 3/30

MCL_Time_Out_Monday

Trying something new today...

My Charmed Life is starting a new weekly feature, anyone can participate.

Time Out Monday - 30 Minutes Or Less is about doing something for yourself.

As a mother I tend to be busy. I have 3 kids to chase around, a house to keep in order, meals to fix...and since I've been laid off from work since December I'm also on the job hunt.

Being at home for the last three months has really made all my days run together.
Wake up, shower, get dressed, feed kids, clean house, feed kids, look for jobs, blog, feed kids....lather, rinse, repeat. That's how it is.

Tonight I'm going to take 30 minutes to sit in my neglected jetted-tub and finish reading Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. Yep...that's what I'm gonna do.

That's my time-out for today. What are ya'll doing?

Why do I want to win?

Well for one, I have a rickety old wooden swing set that we bought for the kids when we moved into this house back in December 2006. We bought it used because we weren't sure if they would like it and didn't want to drop a pretty penny on one only to have it sit unused.

Big mistake. That thing is the biggest, wobbliest piece of crap on our property. It's TOO old. Luckily we really didn't pay much for it. But it's sad because the kids (my two youngest anyway, ages 7 and 2) really want to use it but we don't let them because we don't feel it's safe.

Now that the weather is warming up I'm planning on sending hubby out to disassemble and get rid of the swing set. Anytime we're outside with the kids they want to play on it and then they get pissed off at me for not letting them play on it and my 7 year old whines "well why do we have it, if we can't play on it?" *pouts*

Here is a not-very-close-up pic of the POS swing set. Notice...the slide is not on it because as soon as we put it up the kids are scrambling to get up there and slide down. It's not even on the grass because we don't want them playing on it...and we have a GINORMOUS backyard. When they use the swings the whole thing sways and some of the wood is now splitting.
No freakin' way am I letting them use it!

My boys would think we were heroes if we got a new swing set. They really enjoy playing outdoors and having a fancy-schmancy new toy would make it even that much more fun.

Eden Fantasys - 2nd review

I'm currently hosting a giveaway sponsored by Eden Fantasys.
My first review was for some products that I already had so this review is for the item that they sent me to review as a follow-up-review-to-my-review.

Get it? Got it? Good.

If you've not checked out Eden Fantasys you really should. It's not trashy at all. They not only have sex toys but they have costumes, DVD's and lover's kits as well. There really is something for everyone over there.

I was sent Cupid's Punk Rock Rabbit (in purple) to review.

I admit, it looks kind of intimidating...I assure you, it's harmless.

This bad boy takes 4 AA batteries and is LOUD. Not loud enough to make the neighbors think you're running a jackhammer (heh)...not even loud enough to wake the kids...but a little loud.

I give this little buddy two thumbs up, an A+...

For your chance to win some to win an awesome Eden Fantasys prize pack click here.

Other than that, all I'm gonna say is :

What I'm Reading 3/29/2009

My hell...I can't seem to find time to read. I've been sick all week and have just been laying around on the couch for the most part. I suppose I could have been reading (rather than texting, twittering, watching tv, blogging, napping on the couch). But oh well...

I'm about halfway through "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist".
It's a relatively short read and I probably should have finished it by now but I only read it in the car on the way home from my Wendover excursion. And reading in the car makes me feel icky so I shouldn't have done that either.

Anyway, I'm liking it so far. I'll give a full review when I finish the book...cuz a half-assed-halfway-through-the-book review is not my style.

Wendover

Hubby and I had a date night on Friday night. We took a ride to the Nevada border for a night of music, gambling (Blackjack!) and trashy casinos.

Anyway, Wendover is out in the middle of the desert. It's an hour and a half drive from Salt Lake City. Wendover consists of five casinos/hotels, a few run down motels, a few fast food chains, one major grocery store....a strip club, a handful of liquor stores...you can walk from one end of town to the other in probably 30 minutes or less. That would be taking a leisurely stroll and stopping to take pictures (of what?) on the way. It's a rinky-dink place out in the middle of nowhere. But man, it's fun.

The ride out (and back) is THE MOST BORING FUCKING TRIP EVER. It's the desert...it's flat and um...desert-y. There is nothing to see. Really. All along the side of the road you can see where people have stopped and written their names in the dirt with rocks, many beer bottle creations. Funny though...in all my trips to Wendover I've NEVER actually seen anyone out on the side of the road leaving their mark.

About 30 minutes outside of Wendover (or 1 hour into your trip, depends on what way you're going) there is this weird tree thing. Seeing the tree on the way there means you're almost there....seeing the tree on the way home...well, that fucking sucks as that means you've still got an hour to go.

Yes, I'm totally bitching about a 90 minute car ride. It really is that boring. And if you're hungover on the way home in the morning (or afternoon) then it's even that much more fun.

Here are some craptastic cell phone pics that I've taken the last two times I've been out there.

This is a picture of the hallway inside the Rainbow Casino in Wendover, Nevada. My BFF and I took a trip out for a girl's night out about a month ago. Anyway, we named this hallway the "Austin Powers Hallway". If you happen to be on drugs you'd surely have a good time and might take up permanent residence in this hallway with it's mirrored wall all down the left side and ultra trippy carpet. (more on this in a minute)

And...the carpet in the Ausin Powers Hallway...I couldn't make this shit up, check this out...um...LSD anyone?

We had a good chuckle over this. Why not just replace the sign entirely? I know the economy sucks right now...but I think this is an affordable upgrade that the casino/hotel could afford. LOL

CAMMERAS

They've recently (like within the last 5 years maybe?) added a concert hall out there in the middle of the desert. Hubby and I have only been to two concerts out there. Last year we seen Styx and just on Friday night we seen Night Ranger. No opening bands, no intermissions...just one band for 2-3 hours. We're big fans of anything 80's. I was twittering from the concert on Friday night but I guess no one was interested...or they were too ashamed to @ reply to any of my updates. LOL

Anyway, the concert hall has HUGE (insert sarcasm) headliners...Art Garfunkel anyone? Nah, they really do have some pretty decent shows out there. Staind will be out there in May and I really wanna go to that show. Lots of country peeps go out there and a lot of older bands from the 70's and 80's.

Okay, I'm not religious...at all. And I'm not starting any kind of religious bashing, debates, none of it. But I do find it strange that in every hotel room (at least any room I've ever stayed in) there is a Holy Bible in the nightstand/desk. I worked for a hotel and every room had one, if it was stolen, then it was replaced. I don't know why they're there, I suppose I could Google it and find out but I really don't care that much. I think they should replace or add The Book of Mormon to the drawers out in Wendover. I know gambling is a no-no in the LDS (not LSD) religion. But...I also know that probably 80% of the people in Wendover are from Utah. And I'm pretty sure a majority of those Utahns are also of the LDS faith...because um, that's how it is here. And yes I know not EVERYONE who goes to Wendover gambles. But there is NOTHING else to do out there so chances are pretty good that they do. Ok...enough religious crap.

So that's what I did this weekend. What did you do?

American Idol - Spoilers! 3/25 & 3/26

I'm a little late getting my American Idol post up...Ooops...

Anyway this week's elimination wasn't much of a shocker to me. I actually expected Michael Sarver (yeah I looked him up since I last posted) to go home this week. After last week's upset (for me) with Alexis Grace being in the bottom two with Sarver, then being eliminated....well I knew his time was short, too.

He's not a bad singer...he's not a great singer. Simply put.

My opinion on the other's performances on Wednesday night: (I had to look up a few still...especially last names)

Alison Iraheta had the best performance that night. She's consistent in all her performances. And the judges just love her. She's not my favorite, but she's good.

Adam Lambert put on one hell of a performance on Wednesday. I'd never heard the song he sang but I thought he did a good job. I disagree with Paula on how she liked his hair up off his face...while he did look nice...I like "his" style better.

Matt Giraud...I loved his rendition of "Let's Get It On". I thought he did a fabulous job and was shocked to see him in the bottom three on Thursday night...then he went on to the bottom TWO and I was like WHAT THE FUCK?!? *puts on her angry eyes*. But I knew he wouldn't go home...

Scott MacIntyre...Well now that Sarver is gone, Scott is my least favorite. I liked him during auditions and was really rooting for him but the appeal is gone. He's boring to me. Every song he sings sounds like the last one he sang. And while he can sing fairly well...I'm finding him to be more annoying than anything anymore. (Sorry Scott fans!)

Anoop Desai...this week was Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I couldn't wait for him to be done singing. But I like him ok. Not my favorite...I liked when he sang Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative".

Megan Joy...oy vey. What the hell was that song? I love her voice though, like really love it. But that song was horrible and I actually thought she might end up in the bottom three. I'm glad she's still around though because she is one of my favorites.

Lil Rounds...man, that girl can sing. She can really belt them out. But I wasn't all that impressed with her song choice this week. Loved her dress, hated her hair. She's still one of my faves.

Kris Allen...sheesh he's cute! He sings good...but really he's just eye candy to me. He's not sang anything yet to make me say "Wow". I think he'll stick around a little longer though.

Danny Gokey. He's been my #1 favorite since the auditions. He's good. I like his style. I like his voice and I've liked his song choices so far though some of the judges haven't. He's still my favorite...

One thing I noticed from last week's Country episode and this week's Motown episode...

  • Country week - Randy Travis didn't like anyone
  • Motown week - Smokey Robinson LOVED everyone

I'll be back with more AI chit chat after next week's elimination.

Girl Talk Thursday: Twilight

Doing something new today.... Girl Talk Thursday.

Muchas gracias to Mommy Melee for being our lovely hostess and thanks to Sheila at Noodles and Nuggets for pimping it out on her blog so I could find it and go crash the party.

What is Girl Talk Thursday? It’s a chance to gossip and giggle, to speculate, to say bad words, to down a Margarita or rant (or rave) about your sex life. Even if weekly happy hours are an event from your former life, you can still take time to connect with your bloggy sisters. Grab the salt, a slice of lime, lick your friend your wrist, and go.

I heard "bad words, booze and sex" and that was enough to send me running over there.
Mmhhmmm....true dat.

So this week's topic is Twilight.

I've read the books. I've seen the movie. I went to the midnight showing of the movie on opening day and I think every fucking tweenage drama queen and their mom was there to swoon, giggle and screech over Edward. Never again I say, NEVER again.

Anyway...I love Twilight (the first book). Loved everything about it.
New Moon...oh my hell that book pissed me off.
Eclipse...Good...but for some reason I'm drawing blanks on anything specific in that one...I'll come back.
Breaking Dawn...um...I don't like Jacob anymore.

The movie...I like it...I like it more now that I've seen it WITHOUT the tweenagers bugging the shit out of me with their ooh's and aah's every 2.5 seconds....but the books are still better. Oh and...the girl who played Bella sucked. As in her acting sucked.

Now aren't we supposed to be talking about booze and sex? I covered the bad words part...well some of them anyway.

Speaking of sex...go check out my Eden Fantasys giveaway if you haven't yet (shameless bloggy giveaway pimping...deal with it).
