Dropps Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. A WINNER WILL BE DRAWN SOON. THANKS!

Once again I'm reviewing laundry detergents. I do have to say that receiving all these samples to review is keeping me caught up on laundry! LOL

I was asked to try out a new kind of laundry detergent...they remind me of those little detergent packets that you throw in your dishwasher. Same concept, but these are for your laundry.

Dropps®
are little pouches(pacs) of laundry detergent that dissolve completely in the wash. No measuring, no cups and other than the bag they come in...no waste.

The super-concentrated detergent is free of water and harsh chemicals, therefore eliminating the need for bulky bottles and packaging.

I received two sample packages of Dropps®, one in Fresh Scent and the other in Scent + Dye Free (they also have a Dropps® Baby available). The Dropps® were super simple to use, just toss them in with the wash. The pouch dissolved completely, there wasn't any remnants of it anywhere in my washer or clothes.

I like that they're pre-measured. No searching for that invisible line on the bottle cap. My clothes came out clean and clean smelling.

Dropps® come in 20-count packages and are available at many retailers such as Amazon, Target and Walmart.

One lucky Fairy Blog Mother reader will win a three month supply of Dropps®. (Three 20-count packages.

Thai Kitchen Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. WINNERS WILL BE DRAWN SOON. THANKS!

I'm not overly familiar with Thai food. I've had a few things that a friend from an old job used to make and bring for us to try. The food she made was always so fresh and delicious. Man, I miss the food...and her too, I guess. LOL

However, I've never had curry in my life, at least not that I can recall.

So when I was asked to review Thai Kitchen® products I was more than happy to give them a try. As I like to cook, I like to try new things and I like products that make cooking great meals easier and faster.

I was sent a dinner kit with the ingredients to make Red Curry Vegetables and Red Curry Chicken. I received a box of Thai Kitchen® Jasmine Rice, Thai Kitchen® Red Curry Paste, Thai Kitchen® Fish Sauce and Thai Kitchen® Coconut Milk.

Red Curry Vegetables

1 to 2 tablespoons Thai Kitchen® Red Curry Paste
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, minced
4 cups assorted vegetables, such as broccoli florets, bell pepper strips, sliced mushrooms, sliced onions and snow peas

1. Mix curry paste and water in small bowl until well blended. Set aside.

2. Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add garlic; stir fry 15 seconds. Add vegetables and curry paste mixture; stir fry 3 to 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender-crisp.

Makes 4 servings.

Red Curry Chicken

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

1 can (14 ounces) Thai Kitchen® Coconut Milk, divided
2 tablespoons Thai Kitchen® Red Curry Paste
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 pound cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast
1/4 cup chopped fresh Thai basil
2 tablespoons Thai Kitchen® Premium Fish Sauce

1. Bring 1/2 of the coconut milk to simmer in large skillet on medium heat. Stir in curry paste until well blended. Add remaining coconut milk and sugar; bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes.

2. Stir in chicken. Cook 3 to 5 minutes or until chicken is heated through. Stir in basil and fish sauce.

3. Serve with cooked Thai Kitchen® Jasmine Rice. Garnish with additional basil and red chile slices, if desired.

Makes 4 servings.

The finished product:

The recipes were super simple to follow. It took about 30 minutes to whip up this dinner.

I was told that I could choose different recipes for the review if I wanted to but I chose to go ahead and make the ones that were suggested.

Red Curry Vegetables - I did not like it and neither did Dennis or the kids. Maybe it was the vegetables I used? The bag I used ended up being more mushy carrots than it was cauliflower, string beans and broccoli. The curry itself didn't taste bad, but it was not good on the vegetables.

Red Curry Chicken with Jasmine Rice - This was really tasty. I think maybe had I tossed the veggies in with this it would have made the veggies taste better. Jasmine Rice has a nice, sticky texture and I've used it before in other recipes. The curry sauce was good on the chicken and the rice. It wasn't spicy at all and it didn't have an overpowering coconut flavor to it. I'm not a fan of coconut for the most part.

All in all I'd give the meal a 7 out of 10. I will make it again but either use different vegetables, skip them all together...or add them to the chicken mixture.

I got a little ambitious the next night and decided to make this Thai Beef Salad that my friend used to make for us. I made it from what I could remember it having it in it...and after I'd made it I found a recipe for it on the Thai Kitchen® website.

Here's how I made it:
Thai Beef Salad

2 lb London broil
1 small jalapeno, finely chopped (ribs and seeds removed)
2 small limes
1 handful (?) fresh cilantro, chopped
2 vine ripened tomatoes, seeded and chopped
4-6 T Thai Kitchen® Fish Sauce
1 medium cucumber, sliced

Grill the London Broil until rare to medium rare. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing (thin).

Combine cucumber, tomatoes, jalapeno in a large bowl. Add sliced London Broil, the juice from the two limes and the fish sauce. Toss to combine and let set for a few minutes. The lime juice will help the meat cook a little bit more. Just before serving toss in the cilantro, combine. Serve with Jasmine Rice.

Tasted just how I remember my friend made it...only hers was spicier. I like spicy but have to be careful because of my kiddos.

Serve this warm or cold. It's fabulous.
When my friend (she was actually from Thailand) made it for us she would have us eat it with our hands by making a little rice ball in our palms then putting the salad on it.

We opted for forks when I made it. :)

Misikko Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. A WINNER WILL BE DRAWN SOON. THANKS!

A little over a month ago I was sent a super awesome flat iron from Misikko.

I posted a video demo and review of the Hana Professional 1" Flat Iron. You can check out my previous review here.

So, I've been using this flat iron every day for over a month now and I still love it as much as the first time I used it. It's super simple to use, heats up quickly, has a swivel cord to keep from getting tangled and a heat proof pad to protect my counter top.

In my video demo I am able to style my hair in less than 10 minutes. Since I cut my hair last week I can iron it in less than five. You don't have to keep going over and over the same section to get it straight like with other flat irons.

Here is a pic the day after I got my hair cut.

Misikko
also sells hair dryers, skin care, curling irons, make-up and the ever popular CHI flat iron. Sign up for the newsletter to get exclusive deals and offers.

Lucky for you Misikko has very generously offered to give one Fairy Blog Mother reader a Hana Professional 1" Flat Iron of their own. This is the same one I use.

Classy Nail Files Review

I hate traditional emery boards and nail files. Emery boards are just flimsy, though ultra portable...flimsy. And traditional nail files, though extremely easy on the wallet...I find that the "file" part peels away from the board after so many uses. and the edges are always worn out long before the rest of the file.

Classy Nail Files offers crystal nail files that are durable and cute. They offer a range of clear and colored crystal nail files as well as hand-painted designs.

Each nail file is double sided and can be used on natural or acrylic nails. And because the filing surface is created out of the file body they will never wear out. And they're GREEN! No more tossing out your old nail files and emery boards. These nail files are easy to clean and can be sterilized with heat, autoclave, liquid and UV lighting. And the longer you use them the stronger your nails will be.

I received a hand-painted medium nail file and a small colored crystal nail file. Each file comes in a plastic sleeve. The medium file has a hand-painted blue whale on the end.

I've been using them for about two weeks now and they still work just as well as the first day that I received them. I use the medium file for full manicures (and pedicures). The sleek design makes it easy to smooth out any rough edges quickly and easily. And they're not bulky, so it's easy to get the corners. I keep the small file in my purse for nail emergencies.

You can purchase these great nail files over at www.classynailfiles.com.

Nature Valley Nut Clusters Review

Thanks to My Blog Spark I was able to try out all four flavors of the Nature Valley Nut Clusters.

I've personally always been a fan of Nature Valley granola bars as I prefer the crispier, crunchier texture over the traditional chewy granola bars.

The nut clusters come in four fabulous varieties:

  • Nut Lovers
  • Honey Roasted Peanut
  • Roasted Cashew
  • Roasted Almond

My favorites were the Nut Lovers...cashews, peanuts and pecans with a little bit of honey flavor. They're crunchy and really addicting! I had to close the bag and put them away or I would have sat and ate them all.

All of the flavors were good though. The other three varieties had more granola in them than the Nut Lovers.

If you visit the Nature Valley website you can get a $1.00 off coupon to try Nature Valley's new Nut Clusters.

Much thanks to My Blog Spark for this yummy review opportunity.

Stolen Memes

I like stealing. Ok, not really. I like borrowing memes. I'm not creative enough to come up with one on my own.

I stole both of these meme's from Chelsea over at Mama Makes Money.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Type in "[your name] needs" in the Google search.

A: Annette needs a special family who would like to share their heart and home with her. (As long as they have a large home with a pool and money to give me then yeah, I'm game...who needs heart?)

Q: Type in "[your name] looks like" in Google search.

A:
Annette looks like a very naughty girl! Is she? *polishes her halo*

Q: Type in "[your name] says" in Google search.

A:
Annette says she wouldn't have done half the things she has if she hadn't met her husband on the top of those steps... (Um, I didn't care how the story ended.)

Q: Type in "[your name] wants" in Google search.

A:
Annette wants water for her parents. (I've never watered my parents before...maybe this is why I need a new family.)

Q: Type in "[your name] does" in Google search.

A:
Annette Does it again, another one bites the Dust! (What exactly did I do?)

Q: Type in "[your name] hates" in Google search.

Q: Type in "[your name] wears " in Google search.

Rest In Peace Billy Mays

If you read my blog you know that I have an infatuation with infomercials. I think there should be an infomercial channel. Even if it was a premium, paid channel...I'd buy it.

I've blogged about infomercials a few times. Billy Mays was included on one of those blog posts.

Loud and boisterous and sometimes on the annoying side, I was still fascinated when one of his commercials would come on the tv. And I just recently started watching the show Pitchmen on the Discovery Channel. You see a different, not-so-loud side of Billy on the show.

Sadly, Billy Mays passed away today. Infomercials will not be the same without him.

TaffyTree.com Giveaway - CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. A WINNER WILL BE DRAWN SOON. THANKS!

Salt water taffy is one of Utah's favorite treats. It's certainly one of my favorite types of candy and has been since I was a kid. Who doesn't love the smooth, chewy goodness...and the flavors? So many to choose from.

TaffyTree.com in an online retailer for a local Utah business called Taffy Town. All of the taffy's are gluten free, nut free (tree nut's too!) and certified Kosher dairy. In fact, the entire facility is gluten and nut free.

I just happen to drive right past Taffy Town every day on my way to and from work so I snapped a quick photo with my cell phone while I was stopped in front of the store...waiting for the light to change...waiting to get on the freeway...in the middle of rush hour traffic. Ooops...sorry. Had a mini-rant there.

Taffy Tree offers over 80 flavors of taffy and 9 flavors of sugar-free taffy. Every order comes with 1/4 pound of free taffy that TaffyTree.com chooses for you. It also includes a Taffy Flavor Card so you know which flavor is which. My kids had more fun just eating them and trying to guess which flavor it was.

I was sent the Taffy Tree Sampler and we tore into it right away. I told my kids they couldn't have any but they don't listen to me. All of the taffies were sweet, smooth and chewy. We had a lot of fun testing out all the different flavors most of which we loved. I'll be honest, I did not like the maple flavored taffy...but I don't like maple syrup...reminds me of pancakes and um yeah.

Along with the sampler we received a "Night At The Movies" 1/4 pound bag with movie theater themed flavored taffies inside...buttered popcorn, caramel corn, red licorice, black licorice.

My kid's initial reaction to popcorn flavored taffy "
ewwwwwww!" but then they insisted on trying it even though they were completely grossed out at the thought of it. And they liked it...loved it. Couldn't get enough of it. It was different, kind of reminded me more of a kettle corn flavor. But it was still yummy.

My favorite flavors were neopolitan (a classic!), chocolate mint, tropical punch and raspberry lemonade.

Right now if you make a purchase at TaffyTree.com they are offering
(only one coupon code per transaction)

  • 30% off the TaffyTree Sampler
(contains 63 flavors listed on the taffy card)
    Code: FAIRY
  • FREE shipping on orders over $25
    Code: SHIPME

In addition to those great offers Taffy Tree is also giving a $25 gift certificate and FREE shipping to one lucky Fairy Blog Mother reader!
