Bitch & Moan - A Trip To Urgent Care

Fairy Blog Mother

I don't want to sound ungrateful towards our medical professionals. I know they're very hard working and deal with things that I would not want to deal with ever. So my utmost respect goes out to healthcare workers...well, some of them.

Last Friday I was taking a shower, Ethan was in there with me. He does this all the time...he's the cleanest kid ever. He'll shower with me and shower with Dennis. And because he's only three years old...well, it's fine for now.

Anyhow, he fell in the shower. Smacked his head on the lip where the shower and glass meet and blood...blood...blood (which blood + water = making it look like there's a lot more blood than there actually is). I immediately picked him up, turned off the water (conditioner still in my hair!) and tried to inspect.

It definitely needed stitches.

So I took him to our local urgent care facility. Now he was fine, not crying at this point, the bleeding had stopped and he was talking, playing. We waited 15 minutes just to get checked in. There was only one other person in the waiting room.

Then we got checked in...waited some more.  Finally get called back...nurse does all the stuff she needs to do, inspects the damage and says that it definitely needs stitches.  Staples actually.  Then we wait (again) for the doctor to come in.  She comes in, inspects the wound...yep, staples.  She puts some topical numbing stuff on it and says she'll be back in about 5 minutes...it was more like 20.

The nurse checks on us. Then maybe 5 minutes later they both come back in. they explain that it'll need about three staples and they'll do it as quickly as possible. Fine..do it...get it over with.

Then...

The "doctor" asks the very nice nurse HOW TO USE the little staple thing. Whaaaaaaaat?!?!

The nurse explained how it worked, gave her a little demo while we were sitting there. All the while my eyes are bugging out of my head.

They got it done though. Then the "doctor" asked the nurse if the staple thing should be placed in the sharps container, to which the nurse responded 'yes'. Which, to me...well it seemed like that was the obvious place for it to go.

Ethan only cried for a second and was rewarded with a bouncy ball (his choice).

I'm disappointed that the "doctor" who was caring for him seemed rather clueless about what she was doing. I've been to this urgent care clinic before and will likely go back there as it's very close to my house...but I will not see this "doctor" again. I will specifically request someone else.

Hey "doc"...if you're that clueless about your job...don't discuss it in FRONT OF YOUR PATIENTS. Just a tip...

(I also am aware that the "doctors" at the urgent clinic are not really doctors...they're trained medical professionals, I'm not sure of their actual titles...but still, they should know what they're doing.)

Ethan finally let me take a picture of his owie yesterday.  (super close up)

Aw, that poor little kid! That must have been very traumatic for him-Post bouncy ball that is.

Yeah, I totally agree with you on the whole doctor thing (although I have a whole blockage toward all medical doctors)-They should definitely NOT talk about things like that in front of the patients....

I'm glad everything turned out well though!
